2024 Economic Development Practitioner Workshop

Join us for an exciting new event exclusively for economic development practitioners. This workshop will feature interactive sessions and presentations on vital topics - all aimed to enhance your expertise in economic development! We are excited to announce two confirmed segments:

  • Crafting Economic Development Incentives
    Ernie Pearson, Senior Counsel with the Maynard Nexsen law firm, will explore creative local incentive packages. He will share examples from different communities that used these incentives to help close deals. David Spratley, Director of Economic Development with Maynard Nexsen (formerly with Commerce and EDPNC) will provide an overview of state incentives.

  • Communication and Education Tools for Elected Officials 
    Jonathan Morgan, Professor at the UNC School of Government, will share valuable insights on effective communication with elected officials and community leaders, tailored for all levels of experience.

  • Grant Resources
    Scott Hamilton, President of the Golden Leaf Foundation, David McRae, Assistant Program Manager of  ARC, Hillary Sherman, North Carolina Economic Development Representative for the US Economic Development Administration, and Reginald Speight, State Director with USDA Rural Development, will delve into the intricacies of available state and federal grants and the art of stacking resources — combining resources for maximum impact.

This event isn't just about learning; it's a prime opportunity for relationship-building! It will include many networking opportunities throughout the day with dedicated time to strengthen connections with NCEDA's practitioners at the local, regional, and state levels.
