About

I am the Director of Economic Development at WithersRavenel, www.withersravenel.com, and my colleagues and I work with public and private partners to offer a full suite of funding, environmental, and civil engineering services to help communities identify, prepare, and market commercial and industrial sites. We are also the go-to partner for economic development strategy and comprehensive planning. In my previous role as Executive Director of Economic Development and Regional Partnerships at Western Carolina University, my office connected the university to regional stakeholders, leveraging regional assets to advance the economy and catalyze measurable job creation, investment, and entrepreneurship. I was also a tenured chemistry professor and previously served as Director of WCU’s decennial accreditation reaffirmation. I was the Chief Science Officer for a biotech startup and I frequently mentored founders and was active in regional entrepreneurship support organizations. As a business consultant, I solved technical, product development, and strategy issues and worked extensively with outdoor recreation, craft-beverage, life-sciences, and biotechnology companies. I have been a principal investigator and collaborator on multiple scientific grants totaling nearly $3 million. I have published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and presented extensively in the fields of environmental, analytical, and natural products chemistry. I earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University, a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Wake Forest University, and an M.B.A. from Western Carolina University.
