While heading up the economic development activities in Union County, Platé also simultaneously held additional roles, including Aviation Director for the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport.  Prior to arriving in Union County, Platé was an economic development practitioner in York County, SC and created the first county-funded economic development office for Chester County, SC.

Platé is a subject matter expert in all things on the county-side of economic development, including economic impact analysis of incentives, cost-to-serve analysis of land use, incentive development, cluster development, industrial park development, airport development and speculative building projects.  His career has resulted in nearly $5 Billion of capital investment and over 7,000 jobs, so far.

Platé has been recognized for his achievements.  Named to the NC 40 under 40, prior to being 30 years old.  He is currently listed in the Business NC and the Charlotte Business Journal’s Power 100 Lists.  The NC Economic Development Association named Platé “Economic Developer of the Year” in 2016 and elected him to its board of directors in 2017.  Platé was the President of NCEDA for FY2022-2023.

He graduated from Clemson University in 1993, majoring in economics and minoring in both law and political science.  Chris and his wife Dana reside in both Pensacola, Florida and Waxhaw, North Carolina and they have two children.
