Colleen Merays has been a key member of the Economic Development Department for the Town of Apex since November 2019, serving as the Small Business Manager. In this capacity, she serves as the lead for efforts relating to the recruitment, retention and expansion of all small business across Apex. Colleen serves as the primary Town of Apex contact and resource for all downtown stakeholders. She leads and implements all programs, activities and initiatives in support of Minority and Women-Owned Enterprises (MWBE) and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts for small business. Additionally, she serves as the Financial Resources Manager for the LaunchAPEX program.

Prior to joining the Town of Apex, Colleen Merays spent 17-years as the Assistant Director at the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation in upstate New York. During her tenure, she was instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission to promote downtown Schenectady. Her responsibilities included managing business promotion & marketing, fundraising & development, business development, finance and environmental enhancement & maintenance programs. Colleen also established new grant programs and initiatives and served as a community liaison for many organizations and businesses.

Colleen Merays believes in collaborating with the community and strategic partners to foster economic and community development for the advancement of shared initiatives that benefit Apex. She enjoys leveraging her skills and experiences as the Small Business Manager to contribute to the continued growth and prosperity of the Town of Apex.
